Mexico took my breath away more times than I could keep count, and especially so during our visit to the Tulum ruins. While we are all about vacationing and kicking up our heels, we also wanted to get to know the country and some of it's history so we took a taxi from the resort and headed to the closest ruins. J and I were in awe while we walked through the ruins and listened to the tour guide tell us about the incredible history of the Mayan people. We fell in love with the home of Ixchel, the goddess of fertility, where you can still see the engravings on the walls of a baby and a woman giving birth in the squatting position. Mayan women used to leave gifts outside her door in exchange for her blessings, and standing in front of her home with baby bump in tow felt very special for us. Then there was the Tulum beach just beneath the historical cliff. It was glorious and all I wanted to do was jump into those waves!
My husband took such amazing photos during our trip, i'll always have the memories in my mind yes, but we have these beautiful images that we can always look back on as well. Love you J!
Stunning pics and great baby bump update! Xoxo

People keep telling me I "can't" go to Mexico anymore and it's too dangerous and that there's crime and drug wars exploding everywhere, and while some of this does exist, of course, Mexico is a good sized country and I know there's still a world of wonderful places to explore and many, many good spirited hearts existing within it ... and I've also been told "no one" takes a vacation to Mexico anymore, so thank you for posting these, I may just have to save them to show next time someone says this to me.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a wonderful trip!
Love,
S-C

oh you look stunning...how special for you to be amongst the ruins - honouring the women who have birthed before you.
ReplyDeleteWe always wanted to use a 'tree' name for our first-born, something that represented growth and renewal. We eventually decided on 'Che' but it wasn't until I was reading a book (when he was two) that I found out that the Mayan meaning of Che is 'tree'. I was dumb-founded!
Thanks for stopping by! Fabulous photos! I've only been to Cuba so far, but I think Mexico is on our list for the next vacation spot!! :D You look fan-freaking-tastic by the way!
